I work with all different kinds of writers. Some are Caldecott winners (!) and some are just starting their first manuscript. Many of these clients come through referrals. Either someone tells a friend about me or an editor who has taken one of my classes passes my name onto a writer. It’s an honor to be a go-to for experienced writers and editors, and I’m constantly inspired by the quality of the manuscripts that I work on. I love referrals, and I want more of them! So I’m trying something new.
The first person to introduce me to a new client who books a manuscript critique wins a free week of creative coaching.
Here’s how it works…
Your Job
Tell anyone you know who might be interested in a manuscript critique that you like my work and I’m offering a discount to new clients. You can forward this email or send them a link to book a critique for a picture book, chapter book, or middle grade novel.
Then start making a list of what you want to talk about if you win the week of creative coaching. You can ask me about your WIP, the publishing process, choosing your next project, finding an agent, or whatever is on your mind.
Their Job
Writers can book a manuscript critique here using discount code NEWFRIEND to get 15% off. When they send their manuscript, I’ll ask them to tell me who sent them. (That’s you!) I’ll consider the first name I get the winner.
My Job
Along with finishing the critique, I’ll work with the winner to schedule a week of creative coaching. (It’s nice to know it’s coming so you can make the most of it!)
What makes my manuscript critiques different?
I’m a writer and editor, meaning when I review your work, I blend creativity and analytic thinking. The depth and variety of my experience means I offer empathetic feedback, and I’m sensitive to the market.
Identifying the essential strengths and weaknesses of a book is one of my superpowers. And after teaching writing and editing classes for 10 years, I know how to articulate and explain ideas in a way that’s easy to understand.
I want you to succeed!
Good luck! I can’t wait to meet your writing friends. 💛
“Heidi is so lovely to work with! I’ve collaborated with her on a variety of projects, and her thoughtful edits always elevate my manuscripts. I’ve recommended Heidi to other authors and will definitely be seeking her expertise again in the future!”

✏️ PS—The fastest way to grow as a writer is to book a manuscript critique or a creative coaching session with an expert. My clients get agents, sell books, and win awards. They also learn how to enjoy the creative process, so they can keep going when life gets hard. 👏
