What we’re really doing is…
Shining a light
Layering truths
Working together
Talking all night long
Singing lullabies
Getting lost
Making space
Finding time
Healing wounds
Saying, “Me too,”
Making medicine
Weaving magic
Going under
Tuning in
Sharing our wisdom
Asking “Why not?”
Inviting friends to play
Imagining a new way home
Gardening for the next generation
Making the impossible possible
Mothers Who Make may look like a casual, cheerful gathering of women in interview form. And if that is all it was, it would still be glorious! But in my mind, Mothers Who Make is a world-class gallery of creative mothers. Some are new mothers. Some are more experienced. Many of these women are known for their creative work. They sing, dance, write, paint, and share their work with their communities. Others live quieter but no less creative lives, problem solving, repairing, making up bedtime stories, baking bread, finding beauty and meaning in every day moments. Every mother in the collection is someone who considers creativity an essential part of her life and the lives of her children.
I want to shine a light on creative mothers, partly so we know we’re not alone, partly so we can inspire each other, and partly because the more we share what sustains us, the more we can intentionally integrate it into our lives. If you have been inspired by Mothers Who Make, please share it with a friend.
