This has been a heavy week with news and responsibilities. Every writer I’ve talked to in the last six months is struggling on an existential level. Add in The Tony’s, making summer plans, and silly bedtime moments, and it’s fair to say the cognitive dissonance is high. It can feel like writing is the last thing we should be doing. And yet…
This is exactly when we need our creative practices the most.
Whether you’re drawing, writing, or gardening, prioritizing creativity slows us down. Creativity helps us observe and reflect, and it can be a source of joy and healing. So if you’re feeling extra low this week, I hope you’ll give yourself permission to make something. You don’t have to show anyone. It doesn’t have to make sense. Maybe nothing will ever come of it, and that’s ok. You don’t need to worry about anything beyond getting lost in the pleasure and mystery of making something out of nothing. Let yourself savor that experience and maybe you’ll feel ready to do a little more soon. Or maybe not, and that’s ok too.
Struggling with heartache and burn out?
This Week I’m…

Still thinking about this conversation on the way we’re all struggling to hold all the ANDs in our lives in the midst of all the aforementioned cognitive dissonance 🎧
Wondering if this is the TikTok version of that conversation (Heidis unite!) 👏

✏️ PS—The fastest way to grow as a writer is to book a manuscript critique or a creative coaching session with an expert. My clients get agents, sell books, and win awards. They also learn how to enjoy the creative process, so they can keep going when life gets hard. 👏
Heidi, I love this! And that Hamilton performance 🔥 speechless.
