How can mothers support and encourage each other more?
Support and encouragement are a vital component for creativity. The more I’m supported, the more I create. The more I support others, the more they create. Creators have no room for a scarcity mindset. We are designed to cheer each other on. Practically, I love having a group of friends that will look at my work. They give me honest feedback and sharpen my craft. Without their support my work suffers.Â
When do you feel most creative?
I feel most creative when I’m inspired by a friend or new idea. Whether it’s a new flavor of Kombucha, new sourdough loaf, or new dinner recipe, it feels great to try new things. I find that inspiration comes most naturally when I’m rested. I remind myself to take a walk and meet with friends, even if it’s hard to squeeze in. It’s hard to create in a flurry of busyness. Rest allows my mind and body to slow down and intentionally create. Â
How did motherhood change your creative practice?
Motherhood gave me more time at home to create. Prior to motherhood I worked full-time as a teacher. When I had the baby and went on maternity leave I had a chance to pursue hobbies at home. I had time to brew kombucha. I had time to feed my sourdough. I had time to journal and record my thoughts. Motherhood gave me the opportunity and space to create.

Hi! I’m Heidi. Writer. Editor. Mother. I’m interviewing 100 creative mothers, because I believe the more we see other mothers making beauty and meaning in small moments, the more we will be inspired to make our own kind of art, whatever that may look like during this intense season of life. Support the project by sharing with a friend.
So fun to read this again! Thanks again for doing this series Heidi!
Loved seeing all the ways you practice creativity, Grace!
