You are an artist, creating something out of nothing, making meaning, celebrating what it means to be human.
So why not develop a writing process that feels deeply, luxuriously, beautifully human?
It’s time to let yourself explore, play, and break the rules. It’s time to bring a spirit of kindness, curiosity, and a touch of book magic to the writing process.
It’s time to fall in love with writing.
I created Before You Begin when I needed it, years ago when I felt like the universe was telling me to give up writing. I knew the only way to keep going was to find a way to enjoy the writing process. That’s exactly what I figured out how to do. Along the way, I grew as a writer, and I learned how to bring a more creative spirit to my work. So not only am I writing more, I’m writing more original, interesting books. And this same exact approach has kept me writing through some very hard times.

“What a luxury to spend time thinking about my creative process and how to support and nurture it! When I finished reading, pondering and responding to the journal prompts, I felt like there was a space in my brain for daydreaming, idea making and creating that hadn’t been accessible before. It truly is like meditation for my creative process! ”
Nancy Nesbitt, Writer
